The HUM terminal in the furnace control board is the power source. The humidistat is just like a light switch it’s either open (off) or closed (on). The power then goes to the solenoid. mon is the return power similar to the Neutral wire in a household wiring example.

There are a few different types of furnace humidifiers. A flow through humidifier uses freshwater that flows through the system and drains away. A reservoir type has a reservoir of water that moistens a rotating drum. A steam humidifier heats water to create steam that is injected into the furnace airflow.
The humidifier is 24v controlled and there is a relay connected to 2 HUM terminals on the furnace board. Using volt meter I determined that there is 25v difference between W and G terminals in both cases (when fan only is on and when heat is on).
Last year I installed an Aprilaire 600 humidifier on my 30 yr old oil hotair furnace. Smacked myself for not doing it 20 yrs ago It didn't cost much more than one of the dozen or so portable humidifiers
